STUD
The Socialists and Trade Unionists of Dingle. The coalition’s second-largest party, the trade union movement’s voice in the House Purple, and the loudest bench in the chamber by some distance.

STUD brings the trade union movement into government. In a Republic where unions are “part of the furniture, not something it puts up with” (Article 15), where wages are settled trade by trade and the right to down tools is absolute, the party sees itself as the guardian of the Constitution’s working-class heart.
It holds four seats around the Cabinet table: Socialism, the Island, Healthy Scousers and the Bean Counter’s office. It takes a dim view of the Liberal Dinglecrats and an even dimmer one of the Communists, who it regards as getting the left a bad name.
Every STUD conference closes with the Dinglese words to The Red Flag, in which “in Ringo Bay its hymns are sung” and “the Dodd Coast swells the surging throng”. The party is very protective of it.
Under the Fifteenth Amendment, STUD MHPs, like every elected Member, may not belong to a union for their own office. Most of them carried a union card for decades before they were elected, and most of them will tell you about it.
Members of the House Purple
BC
Bernard “Mandible” Clawson MHP
Secretary for Socialism · West Derby North
Bernard Clawson leads STUD and sits in the Cabinet as Secretary for Socialism, the post that holds the Constitution’s standing office of Minister for Solidarity under Article 63. His brief covers welfare, housing and the State’s duty under Article 15 to be the employer of last resort.
He earned the name Mandible for his bite. In the chamber he is a fast, ferocious debater with a particular appetite for liberals, and opponents who expect a long preamble tend to find the poetry arrives after the punch. His view of welfare is simple: if nobody else will give you a job or a home, the Republic will.
CK
Carlos Knight MHP
Secretary for the Island · Huyton de Ma: The Spanish Quarter
Carlos Knight is responsible for keeping the island safe from the inside: the bizzies, the Nee Nors, fire and rescue, the coastguard and the Republic’s emergency planning all report to his department. The nearest equivalent abroad would be a home or interior minister.
He is not a wordsmith and has never claimed to be, but he is a genuinely effective communicator, and there is no quicker way to get a chant going in the House Purple than to stand him on a lectern. He is the Prime Minister’s most loyal ally in the chamber and, by common consent, its loudest.
PM
Paula McQueen MHP
Bean Counter · Nightingale
Paula McQueen is the Bean Counter, the Republic’s finance minister. She sets the Government’s budget, answers for every Quid of public spending and keeps the Island Revenue’s budget out of anybody’s reach for political favours, as Article 17 insists.
She is a firm defender of the Sixth Amendment arrangement that pegs the Quid one-to-one to sterling, arguing that any attempt by London to manipulate its own currency would hurt Britain at least as much as Dingle. She is famous for her long days and her short answers.
DC
Diane Crowley MHP
Secretary for Healthy Scousers · Belle End
Diane Crowley runs the Health Service, which under Article 12 gives citizens and residents whatever a clinician says they need, free, with no limit put on it by cost, and guarantees that nobody on the island dies of something treatable for lack of money, whoever they are and however they got here.
She is a committed champion of vaccination and of the Republic’s reproductive rights, and a frequent target of politicians abroad for both. She regards that as a sign she is doing the job properly.
KV
Keith Vincent MHP
Backbench MHP · Egg Berth East
Keith Vincent practised law before entering the House Purple and remains one of its most literal readers of the Constitution. When he cites an Article, he means it, every clause of it, and he is visibly hurt when colleagues laugh.
He is a regular contributor on constitutional and legal questions and one of the few Members who has read the Kuya Chronicles cover to cover.
This directory lists Members holding ministerial or party office and others in the public eye. Profiles of all 29 STUD Members are being updated following the general election of 3 May 2029.
