Dingle Broadcasting Service
The State broadcaster, owned in common and never to be sold, in a country with a free press, no press regulator and one newspaper nobody is allowed to distribute.
The DBS
Article 42 gives the State an essential part to play in giving its people good quality journalism, with the absolute right to offer national and local services, education and entertainment to everybody through the State broadcaster, the Dingle Broadcasting Service.
DTV News
The DBS’s news service, on air around the clock, with political correspondents covering the House Purple every sitting day.
Parliament TV
Every sitting of the House Purple is broadcast live and in full on Parliament TV. It doesn’t show adverts, and the Speaker would like everyone to remember that.
Pool coverage
When an event of national importance takes place in a space too small for every outlet, a DBS crew provides pool coverage free to all Dinglese media.
A free press
No regulator
The press is free. There is no press regulator in the Republic and there isn’t going to be one. Journalists’ sources are protected absolutely, and no court may order them named (Article 42).
Who owns what
Nobody may own more than a fifth of any market, and every Dinglese paper or broadcaster is owned by Dinglese citizens alone, with every owner named publicly.
Satire
Satire, mockery, caricature, impressions and effigies are all protected, and the bigger the person, the wider the protection goes (Eighth Amendment). Nobody holding any office, here or anywhere else on earth, is protected from being laughed at.
Libel
A person lied about can still go to court, but the bar is set as high as it goes, and higher again for anyone in public office (Nineteenth Amendment). Libel tourism is shut out entirely (Twentieth Amendment).
The Sun
The distribution of the Sun is prohibited under the Fifth Amendment, extended to online distribution by the Thirtieth. Eleven hours of debate, and not one Member spoke against.
The Dinglese press
Independent titles on the island include The Times of Dingle, The New Swan Times, The Pink Echo, the celebrity glossy Hot Flush (“Celebrity News Hotter Than A Volcano”) and the men’s lifestyle magazine Speke Easy. Most Dinglese politics happens, for better or worse, on Strings.
