Citizens and residents get whatever a clinician says they clinically need, free, with no limit put on it by cost. There is nobody in this Republic whose job is to weigh a person’s life against a price and come back with a number (Article 12).

Using the Health Service

Citizens and residents

Everything you clinically need is free. Anyone lawfully here to work, live or study has the same rights as a citizen (Article 29).

Visitors

Tourists and short-stay visitors pay a flat-rate contribution towards their healthcare. Nobody in an emergency is ever turned away, and nobody is asked to pay before they are treated.

Ringo Bay Teaching Hospital

The island’s main hospital sits in the Ringo Bay medical district of Port Ringo, alongside its Cancer Centre and the medical school of Ringo Bay University. It hosts clinical trials in partnership with research centres in Britain and beyond.

Private treatment

Under the Thirty-ninth Amendment, private providers may offer elective and cosmetic work such as turkey teeth, hair transplants and designer frames. Nothing you actually need is ever for sale. Under the Forty-third Amendment, if a private provider gets it wrong, the provider pays to put it right, not the Health Service and not the patient.

Your body, your decision

Everyone decides what is done to their own body, including whether to be treated (Article 33). Abortion is lawful on the terms set by the First Amendment. A citizen who is terminally ill may ask for help to die, on the strict conditions of the Fortieth Amendment, and no clinician is ever required to take part.

Vaccination

Vaccination is free for everyone on the island. The Secretary for Healthy Scousers would like everyone to have theirs.
